This presentation really interested me. The idea of combating desertification in large vasts of uninhabitable arid landscapes and turning them into opportunities for future (possibly sustainable) growth for humans.
It thoroughly amuses me: the desert structure seems like a replica to the Wind Country in Naruto. Nonetheless, much has to be explored in this field; this guy is just an architect, with little knowledge in geography, biology and economics. He does disclaim his own idea, though.
