This Saving Gaia article on Weekend Today caught my eye when I was browsing through it this morning. A couple of points prompted me to share them here.
"The issue is really the hearts. How many of (us) are actually doing something about it, pursuing a greener lifestyle?"
Amidst the growing flurry of environmental awareness and knowledge, are we being 'green' because it is part of our lifestyle and choice, or is it because we just do it for the sake of doing it?
"So we become a bit of a nanny state and we have 'nanny' mentality, that nanny will do everything for us. ... As a result of that ... people aren't actually taking responsibility for the environment."
We simply have become so dependent on our government to do things for us. We simply seek convenience, and complain when things are out of the way or not in our favor. It's sad. It's even pathetic in some sense.
It is however ironic that I'm saying all these things. I'm part of the majority with nanny mentality. Growing up in such an environment won't make me appreciate what the government has done. What we need is some entrepreneurial spirit to innovate and initiate something on our own.
