Dan Phillips: Creative houses from reclaimed stuff
Phillips provides us with very interesting insights of how waste comes about. I like especially how he quoted an author by the name of Friedrich Nietzsche who wrote a book called "The Birth of Tragedy". In it, Nietzsche said that "cultures tend to swing between one of two perspectives": the Apollonian perspective and the Dionysian perspective. The former is, in short, about perfectionism, and the latter, intuition.
This really got me thinking because, I'm a perfectionist in nature. (Ben Ng calls it my OCD.) What Phillips is saying is that by taking the Apollonian perspective, we are in fact creating a lot of waste, because whatever that does not conform to expected perfection becomes trash and ends up in the landfill. Our intolerance for blemish and imperfection ought to be changed.
Phillips, kudos to you!
